I don't know much about Norse mythology, so if I got a lot of things wrong... sorry.

Anyway, the image is of a Valkyrie that has come to take the soul of a slain warrior to the halls of Valhalla . Except he is a modern day soldier... and in the middle east at that (as is subtly portrayed in the backdrop...) I tried to capture an expression of compassion on the Valkyrie's face... I think I missed though. Expressions have always been hard for me.

I just really wanted to draw something that showed pain as well as hope. Show the tragedy of life lost...

I guess this is some of my anti-war sentiment showing through.

Hahaha, many apologies for the gross inaccuracy

My imagined notions of the middle east are probably just a combination of different stereotypes and inaccurate fairytales and maybe a disney movie tossed in there for good measure. Perhaps one day I'll have the opportunity to travel more and my imagined notions will be replaced with real places and real people

Yeah you missed the whole Norse bit...but you got the the chooser of the slain (That's what valkyrie means) down.

And I think you got the emotion across with the body language.

If you ever wanna do another Valkyrie, but wanna hit the original source more, I'd be glad to help. ^_^
